“LEAP taught me how to study, not only that but it also gave me leadership skills. It taught me the three barriers and how to deal with them. The thing that really caught my attention was the different ways you can feel when you encounter one of the three barriers. When I leave this program I will leave with more knowledge than I came with. I will learn more because you never stop learning no matter how old or young. I will apply what I learned in LEAP in my everyday life.”

In 2005, LEAP received a federal grant from the Fund for Improvement in Education (FIE) to run a study skills project at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee.
In addition to teaching study skills, our tutors worked with the 10th grade students on English grammar. The results were even better than expected - not only did the school meet its annual yearly progress (AYP) goals for basic proficiency, but a remarkable 35% of our students got advanced scores on the statewide test.
With the implementation of our program, Booker T. Washington H.S. moved from a "high priority" school to one on the state's "Celebration List." |
